The Hani terraced fields are magnificently distributed in countries as Honghe, Yuanyang, luchun and jinping on the southern bank of the Honghe River.The fields cover a total area of 40,000 hecrares. Of these fields, the most important part, which covers an area of 11,300 hectares, is found in Yuanyang. There are three areas where to fully appreciate the charm of the spectacular terraces: Bada, Laohuzui adn Duoyishu. Clothed in clouds and mist, such a tremendous number of terraces are a wonderful and splendid view, "a real sculpture of the earth", so named by foreign anthropologists. In July 2004, the terraced fields were accepted and approved by the UN world Heritage Committee as one of the five potential heritage sitess offered by China,
